This year, the 10 startups predominantly focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and biomedical technologies, mirroring global technology trends.
The Taiwanese government has invested heavily in building a startup ecosystem. With the support of Taiwan Tech Arena (TTA), a pioneer program funded by MOST, Taiwan will soon present these international startups to the world.
According to Liang-Gee Chen, minister of MOST, the top 10 teams are selected from a pool of more than 2,000 Taiwan-based startups using a three-stage evaluation process. The criteria for evaluation focuses on four key areas: the quality of the technology, the potential global market, ability to influence an industry and the startup team’s potential. These are the areas MOST believes best demonstrate the capabilities of Taiwan’s tech startups.
The chosen startups are already receiving recognition within their respective industry.
“By promoting these select startups to the international stage, we aim to attract global investment which will help to improve the visibility of Taiwan’s innovative technologies, as well as further developing Taiwan’s economy,” Chen said.
He said MOST has made a concerted effort to select startups from industries which are liable to attract global investment.
According to the co-organizer, Business Next, the top 10 Taiwan coolest tech startup companies include seven founders holding a PhD and three with an MD. Almost all finalists are involved in atleast two disciplines.
